Update on our Adoption!

The past few months have been some of the busiest for Bethany and myself. Between work, kids, holidays, and our adoption, we have been burning the candle on both ends and occasionally in the middle. However, thankfully there is a glimpse of light a the end of the Home Study tunnel! Hopefully here in the next week or so we will have everything wrapped up! This will be a huge blessing in a couple of ways:
      1. Once our home study is finalized we can begin applying for adoption grants. Going into this adoption we knew that there was no way that we would be able to handle the financial burden on our own, but we knew that God has always been faithful to provided for what He has called us to do. He has already shown himself to be faithful by providing generous support from many of you through Christmas picture sessions that I have offered and Bethany's jewelry. We want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you that have partnered with us in this journey! Please pray that we are able to secure a few grants and ease some of this huge burden off of us.
      2. Now that we are through with our Home Study, we can begin to work on our Dossier. The sooner we get our dossier together and sent the closer we are to getting our child. There is much to be done to get this completed, but we are excited to move into this next step!
Last month, we had the privilege to meet with other families who have adopted, are in the process, or who are exploring adoption. We were able to hear Cassie and Brent Hammett's story of their process of adopting their daughters. It was a wonderful, encouraging, and informative night! You can see the video of the live stream here. It is so encouraging to talk with others who understand your frustrations and fears and can offer advice.
We covet your prayers as we push ahead! Here are a few things that you can pray for us about:

    • Rest for Bethany and myself. Like I said above we have been going non-stop for the past few months and are exhausted. Please pray that God would give us rest and strength in these next few months.
    • Direction for which grants to apply for. As we begin the process of applying for grants, we are praying that God would show us which ones to apply for and give us favor with each of the ones that we apply with.
    • Karis and Josiah. Karis is super excited about having another sibling (especially if it is a girl). Please pray that God continues to work in their hearts as we prepare to bring another child into our family.
    • Our child in Haiti. Pray that God guards and protects him or her over these next few years. Pray for health and growth. Pray with us that God would work in his or her heart to let them know that there is someone who cares deeply and already loves them with all their heart!
    • The government of Haiti. Please pray that we find favor with the Haitian government and that if possible the process would be able to be sped up.

Lastly here are few ways that you can financially support us:

  • All the proceeds from Bethany's Etsy shop Songbirds and Lace (Etsy - Facebook) go towards
  • We also have setup a Pure Charity page where you can donate and get a tax write off for your donation. http://adopttogether.org/families/?fundraiser=jonesadoption

Partner with us and get a sweet shirt!

One of the biggest hurdles that we had to cross before starting the adoption process was the cost of the adoption. During our research. we were able to find many resources that assists with the financial burden of adoption. Unfortunately, most of them require us to have our home study completed before we can even apply these grants.  There are some pretty significant upfront costs before we even reach the home study. To help offset this costs, we are selling t-shirts like the ones below. You can find our shirts at bonfire.com/jonesadoption. We would love to have you partner with us in this incredible journey!

The Beginning: Our Path to Adoption

Adoption has been a subject of conversation between us before we even got married. God put a passion in our hearts for the fatherless, and we have been praying since we have been married about the timing of adoption for our family. As we researched and prayed over adoption, we mulled over domestic versus international and what route to follow. There is so many different options that it can quickly become overwhelming. Our prayer in any big decision is that God would open doors and that He would put something in our hearts and minds that we couldn’t shake.

God placed an amazing adoption agency in our lap with values that so closely align with our passion for the fatherless. As we began to research countries, God began to place Haiti on our hearts. Since this country was presented to us as an option, would could not get it off our minds. And let me tell you, we tried. Adoptions in Haiti often take 3 years or longer to complete. We just didn’t know if our hearts could wait that long for a child that already feels like our own, even if we didn’t have a face or name yet. But as we continued to pray over this, we quickly realized one important fact.

Adoption is not about us.

Adoption is such as beautiful picture of the Gospel. The cost of our salvation wasn’t easy. It was messy and hard and painful. But the end result is the sweet fellowship we have in the Family of God. We get overwhelmed as to how our earthly adoption of our child will forever etch in our mind the beauty of the gospel message.

Ephesians 1:4-6
..even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,  to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

As the body of Christ, we are called to care for the fatherless. As excited as we are to share in the journey, it is a daunting one. The cost of adoption overwhelms our hearts every time we think about it. But we have also been witness to our God proving himself faithful when we are obedient to His calling.

Pray for us during this journey.

Pray for our child whoever they may be.

Pray for our hearts to be steadfast in God’s faithfulness and in the waiting.

Pray that God will continue to open doors and show us the paths to take.

Pray that God will be glorified.
